Illustration Friday: Hide

Illustration Friday: Hide

Maurice’s cunning helped him evade that hungry field sparrow, and in doing so he discovered something new: his special affinity for flowers. He decided to go for it. He attained his Master’s Degree in floral arrangement from Chicago School of Flower Design. Today Maurice owns and manages a successful retail floral operation behind the shed there, to the left of the plastic green leprechaun.

This is my drawing for the Illustration Friday (IF website) assignment, this time to illustrate "Hide". Click it for a bigger version.

Simple and effective...but what really makes it is your story...Not sure how I haven't picked up on your blog but nice writing and mental direction...emphasis on mental...

thank you for your lovely post! Love the use of flat colors, so bold!

Ah, so we had a similar idea! I love your color choices and the simple shapes, and especially that it has a bug in it!

Indeed we did, Cindy! Except that yours shows the story in the drawing and that's the way to go—it makes for a more effective illustration. My bug gets away though. Considering the look on your bird's face, I'm not sure yours does.

If you're curious, Cindy's illustration is at http://onceinspiredart.blogspot.com/. Look for a post dated March 4, 2007.

Thank you so much for your comments on my blog, I really appreciated it!
You have a beautiful illustration here, great composition and colors and a fun story to go along with it.
I am still in the very early learning stages of digital illustration, but your work is certainly what I am aiming for: clean, simple, original, bright and cute!

Thanks for all the nice spiffy comments!

Maurice the red bug says Hi. He's running a 15% off sale this weekend on all pink flowers. Sparrows that promise not to eat him will save 20%.
