Say It With Pictures

This next assignment in my humor training is to come up with 10 images or symbols for specific words. It’s supposed to give me more colorful gags and better imagery to choose from when creating joke relationships. But if you’re looking for fun stories, skip the exercise and go directly to the links within the text below.

Words:
  • Red: cherry, sports car, Chinese flag, ruby, raspberry, blood, anger, embarrassed, bull fighter’s cape, clown nose, Clifford (the big red dog), fire truck

  • Blue: sky, water, crab blood, depressed, cobalt, cold, Ford truck, jeans, Patriots football team, cinema

  • Yellow: mellow, sun, Labrador retriever, corn chips, 24k gold, lemonade, blonde, squash, canary, brick road, coward

  • Muscular: horse, bull, bumpy, Arnold Schwarzenegger, steroids, beefy, veiny, no-neck, refrigerator, six-pack abs

  • Sensual: lips, kiss, linger, romance, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, afternoon delight, nape of the neck, groin (the unsexiest word ever), doing the dishes (taking out the garbage, rotating the tires, changing the oil, etc.)

  • Strong: stinky, father figure, car lift, shoulder to lean on, overbearing, bear, Limburger cheese, ox, iron bending, Hercules

  • Lucky: four-leaf clover, stars, leprechaun, seven, three-legged dog’s name, rabbit foot, dice, getting the last piece of cake, my boat just came in, monkey

  • Stingy: Scrooge, miser, lunch lady, boss, selfish, cheapskate, me me me, Tooth Fairy, hoarding, banker

  • Sexy: pool boy, Smoove B (from “The Onion”), soul singer, crooner, lover, chocolate, aphrodisiac, racy, tango, a rose in the wintertime

  • Shy: timid, deer, wary, quiet as a church-mouse, hush-hush eye-to-eye, just short of, bashful, scared, sweet, self-conscious

  • Arrogant: cocky, insecure, bossy, proud, Ron Burgundy from Will Ferrell’s “Anchorman” movie, over confident, unaware, Bush and Cheney, corporate America, drivers of BMWs/SUVs/Hummers/big pick-ups

“Anizo 100% Reality Mind.” What this means, I have no idea. A friend found it living in a vending machine on the street in China and brought it back to Boston for me. The one-inch tall yellow plastic guy (I think it’s a he) has a smile, a blue tear, a pair of hand holes, a growth atop his head pierced clean through, and, on his backside, a man getting squeezed between two lines that I hope do not represent butt cheeks. Illustration Friday: Hide

Maurice’s cunning helped him evade that hungry field sparrow, and in doing so he discovered something new: his special affinity for flowers. He decided to go for it. He attained his Master’s Degree in floral arrangement from Chicago School of Flower Design. Today Maurice owns and manages a successful retail floral operation behind the shed there, to the left of the plastic green leprechaun.
